Yes and no

How have your political views changed over time?

I come from a family who believed that God was the overall authority – not people. If that is the case I think God has messed up. Leaders are obsessed with increasing their power. The poor and the victimised are always at the bottom of the heap, regardless of the type of regime- democratic or autocratic.

I have veered from an avoidance of politics to trawling through the manifestos in local and general elections. Whatever politics are in place, I feel we owe it to the communities in which we live to aim for communities which care for the rich and the poor, immigrants as well as natives of the homeland, where all may welcomed and encouraged to be, and to do their best to be part of a thriving and a caring community.

The more I think about it, the more impossible it seems. But surely that should be the basis of all our hopes and dreams for the people among whom we live. So let’s keep that dream going, doing whatever we can to achieve a more sustainable and fairer society, working through the pitfalls and rising closer to a fair and humane society.
